Midget Team Has Above Average Summer
2009-07-21
The second year Jr. Wolf Pack U-16 team has seen some ups and downs over the course of the first season but year number 2 will hopefully open some more doors.
The Midget team participated in the Montreal Meltdown, Hub Cup, Jr. Chowder Cup and the Next Level Tournament this off season.
Although their record was not where they would have liked it to be the Jr. U-16 Wolf Pack staff was happy for the most part.
"This is the age group that is tough, the kids, the parents do not yet understand the commitment level that is needed to be a successful hockey player these days. it is not a part time sport anymore and we are disappointed with the off season commitment level with about 50% of our kids. Our older players our 93's also need to realize that until they dominate their own age group they can not advance in this game. This summer was a good test and we saw that the decisions we made with the older kids were right on and they will have to be the top 93's in the Atlantic Youth if they want a shot at juniors the next season. It showed in almost every tournament that the commitment level is not where it needs to be and it needs to and will change or it will be a long season. We have a lot of good players and we need all the players and parents on the same page and dedicated to this season and to the game of hockey or we will not be successful," said GM Chris Cerrella.
The Midget U-16 team will have a month break and than a few exhibition games before the McCraw Midget Tourney where they will compete against some of the top Midget teams in the country.
"It'll be a good test to start the season. I'm excited. We have a lot of work to do and we have some good players but we will also have to change the character of some of our players. The season is right around the corner and I want to be able to come out of the saddle with guns blazing," said Head Coach Yvon Corriveau.
