Junior B Split Weekend
2009-10-18
The Jr. B Pack earned 2 out of 4 points this weekend beating the NY Saints on Saturday and than dropped a close one to the powerful Suffolk PAL last seasons Jr. B National Champions. On Saturday night rookie Sean McVey scored 2 goals to lead the team and goalie Jacob Wint seemed to find his way after some shaky outings stopping 24 shots on the night.
"It was not a pretty effort but we will take the 2pts and the win. We have not seemed to find consistency and it keeps us from being that terrifying team that we should be. We can not keep teams in games and we can not give up leads, we have to figure it out as a group and we will continue to work on it," said Owner Dan McCarthy.
That inconsistency seemed to haunt the Jr. B Pack on Sunday as well as they dropped a 3-2 loss to Suffolk PAL. Forward Matt Schafer had a goal and an assist and rookie goaltender Sam Peluso continued his stellar play between the pipes stopping 33 shots to keep his team in the game despite the inconsistent effort. The 1993 goalie holds a 5-2 record with a 1.72 GAA and a .930 Save Percentage which puts him in the top 5 in the MJHL statistically.
"We have seemed to struggle playing 60 minutes and when you play good teams you can not let them stay in the game, you can not beat the National Champions that way. We blew a 2-0 lead and than had a lapse in the D zone which gave us the loss, even know the game was close we did not play consistent enough to win the game. You can get away with it against weaker teams but against good teams you have to play hard, smart and consistent or it is a matter of time before they take the game away from you and that is what happened," said Chris Cerrella.
The Jr. B Pack sits in 4th place of the Francis Division but has placed less games than some of its division rivals. They will continue play this Friday a they will travel to NJ to take on the NJ Rockets.
