Jr. A Earn Four Point Weekend
2009-11-09
The Jr. A Wolf Pack traveled North this past weekend to take on division rivals the Portland Jr. Pirates.
On Saturday night, the game was tight with the score 3-1 after the second period. That's when defenseman Mike Novella and forward Dan Kane scored their second goals of the night each to help the Jr. Wolf Pack secure a 5-2 win over the Jr. Pirates. The Pack out shot the Pirates 43 to 21.
On Sunday things were a little different as the Pack came out hungry and looking to earn all four points on the weekend which is not an easy task in the North Division.
Veteran forward Cameron Chinnery scored two goals as Hartford was able to defeat Portland by a score of 7-1. Forward Dan Kane continued his excellent play as he added two assists to give him a well deserved 6 point weekend. Kane leads the Jr. Wolf Pack with 20 pts in 19 games.
Rookie forward Pat Avery who has been a spark plug for the Pack this season also scored, the goal was Avery's first junior hockey goal. Also getting his first of the season was Rookie Matt Mule who got the win as he played a great game keeping his team on top as Portland swarmed the Pack early on in the game.
"It was a good weekend for us, but we still have a ways to go. We seem to be coming along and we are starting to understand that this is a 60 minute game. Bottom line though is we have to beat the teams at the top of the division and we have not been able to do that on a consistent basis, we have made some moves to make our team stronger and we have gotten all our players back from injury with the exception of one. I think we are going to start a good climb, we have a big weekend coming up with Walpole coming into town. We will have to be focused and ready for battle," said Chris Cerrella.
The Hartford Jr. Wolf Pack will take on rival Walpole Express this weekend at Champion Skating Center.
